Karl Salingua Music — A working musician's credibility should be audible and bookable in the same visit — the site does the introduction so the artist can do the playing.

Music & Entertainment · Alberta · Launched 2024 · Live site: karlsalingua.com

Karl Salingua is a freelance bass player who needed a single, professional home online — a place where promoters, bandleaders and event planners could see who he is, hear what he does, and book him without a back-and-forth.

We designed and built a portfolio-and-booking site that leads with the work: the performance history and playing up front, a clear booking path close behind, so interest turns into a confirmed gig in one uninterrupted flow.

The result is a self-serving business card that works while Karl is on stage — inquiries arrive with the context they need, and the artist stops chasing the conversation and starts answering it.

The challenge

A freelance player is judged on sound and track record, but there was no single place to experience either — a promoter's impression was scattered across whatever links happened to surface, or nowhere at all.

Booking depended on human chase: a message, a wait, a reply, a follow-up. Every step of friction was a chance for a promoter to move on to a bassist who was simply easier to reach.

The brand had to read as professional and gig-ready without a large catalog of assets — the design needed to make a lean body of work feel established, credible, and worth booking.

Strategic objectives

  1. Give Karl one authoritative home that establishes credibility in seconds — who he is, what he plays, and the caliber of the work.
  2. Turn the portfolio into a decision tool: let a promoter experience the playing and the performance history before they ever reach out.
  3. Remove the email chase — put a clear, low-friction booking path directly next to the proof, so interest converts in the same visit.
  4. Build something the artist owns and can grow, that works on a phone in a green room as well as on a desktop in a booking office.

Lead with the sound, not the sell

Promoters book a bass player on the strength of the playing, not on marketing copy — the fastest way to earn a booking is to let the work speak first.

We structured the site so the portfolio and performance history sit at the front of the experience, with the media and proof of work given visual priority over any pitch.

Visitors arrive at a decision-ready impression quickly, experiencing the caliber of the work before being asked to act — reflected in a rise in profile views (+280%) as more people engaged with the showcase.

Put the booking path where the interest peaks

The moment a promoter is convinced is the moment they'll act — if the booking path isn't right there, the intent cools and the message never gets sent.

We placed a clear, low-friction booking route directly alongside the portfolio, so the next step is always visible at the exact point of conviction rather than buried on a separate contact page.

Interest turned into inquiries without the email chase Karl had relied on, contributing to a lift in booking inquiries (+150%) and gig conversions (+120%) as more visits ended in a real request.

Make a lean catalog read as established

A freelance artist rarely has an agency-sized asset library — the design has to make a focused body of work feel professional and gig-worthy, not sparse.

We used restrained, confident layout, generous space, and clear hierarchy so each piece of work carried weight, and the brand read as a serious, bookable act rather than a hobby page.

The site presents Karl as an established professional from the first screen, giving promoters the confidence to book a name they may be encountering for the first time.

Design for the green room and the booking office

The two people who matter — the artist checking his own site and the promoter deciding on a phone between acts — are almost always on mobile.

We built the experience mobile-first, so the portfolio, media, and booking path all work cleanly on a small screen without losing the professional feel of the desktop view.

A promoter can move from hearing the work to sending an inquiry entirely on their phone, keeping the path to a booking intact wherever the decision happens.

The mobile experience

Most booking decisions happen on a phone — a promoter scanning between sets, or Karl sharing his own link in a message. The site is built mobile-first so the portfolio, the media, and the booking path all hold their clarity and professionalism on a small screen, with touch-friendly controls and a single clear next step always within reach of the thumb.

Search & discoverability

The site gives Karl Salingua Music a single, ownable home at his own domain — a stable, searchable identity a promoter can find by name instead of piecing together scattered links. Clean structure, descriptive page content, and a clear naming of what he does (freelance bass player, portfolio, booking) make the site legible to search engines and to anyone Googling his name after a show, so being remembered turns into being found and booked.

Technology & ownership

Built as a fast, self-contained portfolio-and-booking site that Karl owns outright — not a rented profile on a third-party platform. The architecture keeps the media showcase and the booking path in one place, so there is no dependency on an external marketplace taking a cut or controlling the relationship with the promoter.

Services delivered

Karl came to the project knowing he needed a website but not where to begin — the intent without the vehicle. What he has now is a home that introduces him, proves him, and books him while he's on stage. The site does the work that used to fall on his inbox, so the freelance bass player can spend his time where it counts: playing.
