    Overview

DOVE Christian Weddings is a wedding-planning service in which one planner brings Christian vendors together around a couple's vision and budget, serving Calgary, Cochrane and the Alberta foothills. Local Cochrane Web Design built weddingsbydove.com so that a couple at the very start — a feeling, a season, a budget they are unsure of — can share what they imagine and begin a conversation without committing to anything.

Wedding sites tend to open with a portfolio and close with a contact form, which assumes the couple already knows what they want and has seen enough to trust the planner. DOVE launched with neither a portfolio of past weddings nor a published vendor list, so the build had to earn the enquiry a different way: by explaining the experience in four plain stages, by stating exactly what the planner does and does not promise, and by replacing the contact form with a four-step 'Build your package' flow that accepts 'I'm not sure yet' at every turn. Everything the service could not yet prove is either disclosed on the page or left out of it.

Captured from the live site — different pages, real pixels, no mockups.

    The client

DOVE's model is one planner and one point of contact: nine services — planning and coordination, venues, pastors and officiants, live music, photography, videography, florals and styling, catering and cake, rentals and essentials — coordinated around what the couple already has, with 'Christ at the centre' stated as the reason the service exists.

Its clients are engaged couples, often early, often with a church and a pastor already in mind and most of the rest undecided. The site's reader is someone who does not yet have a brief, and who may be reluctant to enquire precisely because of that.

    The challenge

A launch-stage service has nothing of the usual proof. There were no completed DOVE weddings to photograph, no named vendors, no prices and no reviews. The imagery had to be illustrative and say so; the credibility had to come from clarity about the process and honesty about its limits.

The service's own language — vendors who are 'trusted' and 'vetted' — is exactly the kind of claim that invites overstatement. The site had to define those words in a way the planner could stand behind, and decline the guarantees a couple might assume they imply.

    Strategic objectives

What the build had to accomplish.

    1. Explain the planning experience in stages a couple can picture — share a vision, explore a tailored team, agree scope and costs in writing, prepare for the day.

    2. Let the enquiry start from a feeling: select services or a preset bundle or nothing, describe the day, choose a budget bracket or ask for help with it, and send.

    3. State what 'vetted' means and what it does not, in the planner's own words, and keep money 'discussed plainly'.

    4. Disclose that the photography and film are illustrative, and name their sources.

    5. Ship a fast, prerendered, privacy-respecting site with a reduce-motion control and no analytics cookies.

The insights that shaped the work

The couple most worth reaching is the one with the least decided. A form that demands a brief filters them out before the first conversation.
For a new service, the honest limit is the credential. 'We do not claim background checks' reads as integrity, and integrity is what a couple is buying from a planner.
Illustrative imagery is not a problem if the page says so. Pretending it is a portfolio is.

    Chapter

A package the couple can build from almost nothing

    Insight

A couple who 'don't have it all figured out' — the site's own phrase — will not fill in a form that asks for a date, a venue, a guest count and a budget as required fields.

    Decision

The enquiry page opens with 'You don't need every detail worked out.' and offers two ways in: 'Build your package' or 'Send a message'. The package route is a four-step flow — services, your vision, details, review — whose first step offers four preset bundles ('The ceremony', 'The celebration', 'The memories', 'The whole day'), nine individual services, and a checkbox that reads 'I'm not sure yet'. Later steps ask about the feel of the day, faith and meaning, what is already arranged, a budget for DOVE's services in brackets from under $5,000 upward with 'Help me work this out' as an option, a guest range that includes 'Not sure yet', a location that includes 'Help us find a venue', a date that can be 'still deciding', and how the couple would like to be reached. The page repeats, in as many words, 'No strings. No commitment.' and 'This simply starts a conversation with DOVE.'

    Effect

The enquiry accepts the couple at the stage they are actually at. The planner receives a structured brief even when the couple could not have written one, and the first reply can be about their wedding rather than about missing fields.

    Chapter

Four stages, so the experience can be pictured

    Insight

Couples who have never hired a planner do not know what happens after they enquire, and uncertainty about the process is its own reason not to start.

    Decision

The Experience page lays the service out as four numbered stages: share your vision and priorities; explore a tailored team and realistic options; agree scope, costs and responsibilities; prepare for the celebration with your planner. Around them the page states the terms a couple would otherwise have to ask about — that an existing church, pastor or booking is welcome, that 'Money is discussed plainly', that scope and costs are written down before work begins, and that 'Nothing is booked until you say so.' The questions section answers the obvious one directly: sending an enquiry commits the couple to nothing until a scope and cost are agreed in writing.

    Effect

A first-time client can picture the whole engagement before making contact. The page removes the fear of an open-ended commitment, which is the usual reason a couple keeps browsing instead of writing.

    Build your package, step one

    Chapter

Defining 'vetted' instead of leaning on it

    Insight

'Trusted Christian vendors' is the service's central promise and the easiest one to inflate. A couple may hear background checks, insurance and guarantees that nobody has made.

    Decision

The services page answers 'What does "vetted" mean here?' in the planner's words: vendors are chosen for their skill and their character, fit is discussed with the couple before anyone is introduced, availability is confirmed with each vendor, and costs and responsibilities are written down before any service begins — and 'We do not claim background checks or guarantees.' The Our Faith page carries the same discipline under the heading 'Practices you can see, not promises': 'We describe only what we do. We do not claim background checks, insurance verification, endorsements or guarantees that have not been made.' The footer of every page discloses that the photography and film are illustrative, by Pexels contributors and Atom2Adam, and 'do not depict DOVE weddings or partner venues.'

    Effect

The service's one big claim is made precise enough to be true. A couple reading carefully finds the limits stated before they could be disappointed by them, and the disclosed imagery means nothing on the site pretends to be a portfolio the service does not yet have.

    The mobile experience

A couple reads about a planner together, on a phone, in the evening. The hero resolves to a single serif line and one action — 'Share your vision' — with the service area pinned beneath it. The four-step package builder runs as a full-width stepper where each choice is a single tap, the preset bundles sit above the individual services so the quick path is the first one, and the optional music control stays in a corner rather than in the way. A 'Reduce motion' switch in the footer turns off the site's depth and reveal effects for anyone who prefers a still page.

    Search & discoverability

Every route is prerendered to static HTML at build time, so the service descriptions, the four stages, the faith page and the enquiry page's first step are present in the first response, each with its own title, description and Open Graph image. The site publishes no analytics or advertising cookies, which its privacy page states plainly. What it does not yet carry is as notable as what it does: no canonical tags and no structured-data graph were present on the live pages at the time of writing, because the service's final domain was still being confirmed when the site was built — a gap recorded for the owner rather than papered over here.

    Technology & ownership

The site is the client's own asset: a prerendered build on its own domain with a single-page fallback for client-side routes, an enquiry flow whose state machine saves a draft as the couple goes and returns them to the review step, and submissions that are stored privately and delivered by email through a transactional service. The build is tested in the browser with accessibility checks on every journey, and its photographs are served as modern responsive formats generated from a manifest that records each image's source and credit.

    Immediate outcomes at launch

    • A couple can start an enquiry with a feeling, a bundle, or 'I'm not sure yet', and the planner still receives a structured brief.

    • The planning experience is published as four numbered stages, with 'Nothing is booked until you say so' and written scope and costs stated before any work begins.

    • 'Vetted' is defined in the planner's own words, and the site states what it does not claim — background checks, insurance verification, endorsements or guarantees.

    • Illustrative imagery is disclosed on every page with its sources named.

    • The site runs no analytics or advertising cookies and offers a reduce-motion control.

    Common questions

What owners ask before commissioning a build like this one.

How should a wedding planner's website handle couples who haven't decided anything yet?

By letting them begin anyway. DOVE's enquiry page opens with 'You don't need every detail worked out.' and offers preset bundles, nine individual services or 'I'm not sure yet', then accepts a budget bracket or 'Help me work this out', a guest range with 'Not sure yet', and a date that can be 'still deciding'.

Can a new wedding planner launch a website without a portfolio?

Yes, if the site does not pretend otherwise. DOVE launched with illustrative photography and film, disclosed on every page with its sources named, and earned credibility from a clearly explained four-stage process and a plain statement of what the planner does and does not promise.

How do you make a claim like 'vetted vendors' honest on a website?

Define it. DOVE's site says vendors are chosen for skill and character, fit is discussed before any introduction, availability is confirmed and costs are written down before work begins — and states outright that it does not claim background checks, insurance verification, endorsements or guarantees that have not been made.

Should a wedding enquiry form commit the couple to anything?

No, and the site should say so. DOVE's form repeats 'No strings. No commitment.' and its questions section answers that an enquiry starts a conversation only — there is no booking, no payment and no obligation until a scope and cost have been agreed in writing.

What results does this case study claim?

None that were not observed. No enquiry counts, bookings or revenue appear here, because the service is launch-stage and nothing has been measured. What is documented is the build — its enquiry flow, its four-stage explanation, its definitions and disclosures — verified against the live site and the studio's repository on 21 October 2026.

    Where it stands

DOVE Christian Weddings asks couples to trust a planner with a day they have not yet imagined in full. The website does the first part of that job: it explains what will happen, says what will not be promised, and lets the couple begin with whatever they have. The weddings will provide the portfolio in time. Until then, the site's honesty is the proof.
