    Overview

Voice of Moses is a Christian conversation podcast — 'unhurried conversations about faith, life, and the lessons we carry' — whose first episodes had not yet been published when its website went live. Local Cochrane Web Design built voiceofmoses.com as an evergreen home for the show: a place that explains its purpose, names its supporters, and is ready to carry episodes and listening links the day they exist, without pretending they already do.

Most podcast sites are built after the show has an audience, so they open on the latest episode. This one had the opposite brief: say what the podcast is and why it matters, invite partners and guests, and leave the places where listening links will go visibly, deliberately empty. The build is driven by a single configuration file in which every platform, playlist, giving link and form endpoint is either a verified address or null — and a null hides its feature with an honest line such as 'Watch and listen links will appear here when available.' rather than a dead button. The result is a site that is complete as a site and transparent about being pre-launch as a podcast.

    The live site

Built to be judged in the only place that counts.

    Supporters

Captured from the live site — different pages, real pixels, no mockups.

    The client

The show's premise is intergenerational — wisdom passed between older and younger believers in long-form conversation — and its visual world is quiet: ivory and bronze artwork, stained-glass photography, two serif and sans typefaces, and no hurry anywhere on the page.

It launches with four named supporters — Colors of Glory, Saint Peter's Lutheran Church, Atom2Adam as media partner, and Psalms 23 Cafe — and with its listening platforms, giving method and message delivery still to be set up by the owner.

    The challenge

A podcast site with no episodes risks looking abandoned, or worse, dishonest if it ships placeholder players and 'listen on Spotify' buttons that go nowhere. Every usual conversion on a podcast site was unavailable at launch.

The site also had to be handed to a non-technical owner who would fill in the platforms, the playlist and the giving details over the following weeks. Each of those additions had to be a one-line change that could not break the page or publish a wrong link.

    Strategic objectives

What the build had to accomplish.

    1. Explain the podcast's purpose and tone well enough that a visitor wants to come back when episodes exist.

    2. Show exactly where watching, listening, giving and contact will live, and state plainly what is not yet available.

    3. Make every platform link, playlist and endpoint a validated configuration value, so the owner can switch features on without touching code.

    4. Name supporters and open a partnership conversation without implying sponsorship tiers or money that has not changed hands.

    5. Load nothing from a third party until the visitor asks for it, and say so on the privacy page.

The insights that shaped the work

The honest empty state is the launch. 'Links will appear here when available' is a promise with a date attached; a greyed-out player is a lie with a play button.
For a site that will be edited by its owner, the safest feature is one that cannot exist until its data is valid.
A podcast is sold on its voice before its episodes. The vision page carries the show until the audio can.

    Chapter

Empty places, stated rather than faked

    Insight

The listening section is the most important part of a podcast site and, at launch, the one thing this site could not fill.

    Decision

The homepage keeps the section — 'Find your next conversation.' with 'Full conversations' beneath it — and prints the truth where the player would be: 'Watch and listen links will appear here when available.' The support section does the same: 'Giving details will be available here.' The contact page carries two notices above its form, 'This form isn't connected yet.' and 'Online inquiries will open once message delivery is set up.', and the privacy page repeats that the forms do not send or store anything. The site's structured data describes a PodcastSeries with its genre and language and no episodes, rather than inventing one.

    Effect

A visitor who arrives early learns three things: what the show is, that it is real, and exactly what is not ready. Nothing on the page can disappoint by failing, because nothing claims to work that does not.

Contact: the form, marked as not yet connected

    Chapter

One file the owner can fill in

    Insight

The owner will add a YouTube playlist, Spotify and Apple links, a giving page and a message endpoint over time — and a wrong URL in any of them is worse than none.

    Decision

Everything the owner may change lives in a single site-configuration file, validated by a schema at build time: links must be https, platform addresses must sit on their exact hosts, and a giving link that points at a platform's homepage rather than a specific page is rejected. Each value starts as null, and null hides its feature with its honest line. When a playlist id is set, a click-to-load YouTube facade appears — no iframe loads until the visitor presses play, and it uses the privacy-enhanced player. Platforms still in progress render as 'Coming soon' rows that are not links. The build is tested with twenty-one unit tests and thirty-three browser tests covering the form states, the billboard and the facade.

    Effect

Turning a feature on is a one-line, validated change the owner can make without a developer, and the page cannot ship a broken or misdirected link. The site grows into a full podcast home without a redesign.

    Chapter

Supporters named, partnerships invited, nothing implied

    Insight

Early supporters are the show's only external proof, and the easiest thing to overstate is what their support consists of.

    Decision

The homepage closes 'With thanks to our supporters.' and lists four names with the plain label each has — a website link for three, 'Media' beside Atom2Adam, and 'With thanks.' beside the church that has no site to link. The Supporters page repeats the roster with 'Visit website' links and ends with one invitation: 'Interested in supporting the podcast through your organization?' leading to the partnership tab of the contact page, where the choices are 'Sponsorship', 'Services or resources' and 'Let's explore'. No tiers, amounts or logos-for-money are shown because none exist.

    Effect

The show's community is visible from day one without a single implied transaction. A prospective partner knows what is being asked and that the conversation starts with a form, not a rate card.

Voice of Moses website on a phone — the Wisdom Worth Passing On hero with Discover the Vision and the bottom navigation bar

    The mobile experience

A podcast link is shared person to person, so the first visit is almost always on a phone. Below the desktop breakpoint the site gains a bottom navigation bar — Home, Listen, Vision, Support — so the four reasons to be here are always under the thumb, and the expanded menu is an overlay that traps focus and closes cleanly. The hero's wordmark, tagline and single 'Discover the vision' action fit one screen; the artwork scales as a quiet background rather than a weight; and no video, audio or third-party script loads until the visitor asks.

    Search & discoverability

Every route is prerendered to complete HTML — the hero, the vision, the supporters and the contact form are all in the first response — and hydration only runs when the served page matches the route. The site publishes WebSite and PodcastSeries structured data with the show's genre and language, and will carry the platform links in the series' sameAs the moment they are configured. It was built so that search indexing is explicitly switched on when the production origin is set, and until then the pages declare themselves noindex and carry no canonical — a deliberate guard against indexing a preview, and the reason this study claims nothing about rankings.

    Technology & ownership

The site is a static build the owner can host anywhere, with no database, no server and no analytics — the privacy page states 'No analytics, no advertising cookies.' and 'Nothing from YouTube loads before you press the button.' Five supplied artworks and two stained-glass photographs by the show's media partner are served as responsive images; the two typefaces are self-hosted. A welcome-email template is prepared for the day a mailing provider is connected. The footer credits the builder quietly — 'Crafted locally by veepo.ca' — at the owner's request.

    Immediate outcomes at launch

    • The podcast has a complete home — purpose, vision, supporters, privacy and contact — before its first episode.

    • Every unavailable feature states its own status on the page: listening links, giving details and message delivery are each described as not yet available rather than faked.

    • Platform links, playlist, giving page and form endpoint are validated configuration values the owner can switch on without code.

    • A click-to-load, privacy-enhanced video facade is ready for the playlist, and in-progress platforms render as non-link 'Coming soon' rows.

    • Four supporters are named with the plain label each has; a partnership conversation is invited with no tiers or amounts implied.

    • Every page is prerendered to complete HTML with PodcastSeries structured data; indexing is gated on the production origin so a preview can never be indexed by mistake.

    Common questions

What owners ask before commissioning a build like this one.

Can you launch a podcast website before the first episode?

Yes, if the site is honest about it. Voice of Moses went live with its purpose, vision and supporters complete, and with the listening, giving and contact sections each stating that their links or delivery are not yet available — so an early visitor learns what the show is without being handed a player that does not play.

How should a podcast site handle listening links that aren't ready?

Keep the section, state the status, and make the link impossible to get wrong later. Voice of Moses prints 'Watch and listen links will appear here when available.', renders in-progress platforms as non-link 'Coming soon' rows, and stores every platform address in a validated configuration file so the owner can switch each one on with a single line.

How do you embed a podcast's video without slowing the page or tracking visitors?

With a click-to-load facade. Voice of Moses loads no YouTube iframe until the visitor presses play, then uses the privacy-enhanced player; the privacy page says so in one sentence. The site runs no analytics or advertising cookies at all.

How should a new podcast present its supporters?

By name, with the plain label each one actually has. Voice of Moses lists four supporters — a website link for three, 'Media' beside its media partner, and 'With thanks.' beside a church with no site — and invites partnership through a form with three honest options, with no tiers, amounts or logos-for-money implied.

What results does this case study claim?

None that were not observed. No downloads, subscribers, episode counts or rankings appear here, because the podcast had not published an episode when this was written. What is documented is the build — its honest empty states, its validated configuration, its facade and its prerendered pages — verified against the live site and the studio's repository on 21 October 2026.

    Where it stands

Voice of Moses asked for a website before it had anything to play, and the honest answer was to build one that says so. When the first conversation is published, the site will not need to change its shape — only to tell the truth about one more thing.
